Anxiety, OCD and Panic Disorders
We treat a variety of anxiety disorders including social anxiety, general anxiety, phobias, health anxiety, perfectionism, panic disorders, eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binging, rumination disorder, avoidant/restrictive food intake), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). We use a client-specific protocol combining cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), exposure & response prevention (ERP), compassion focused therapy (CFT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
Trauma and PTSD
Trauma is the response of experiencing a distressing event. At times, our brain and body may not recover on it's own and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can develop. We utilize cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), prolonged exposure (PE), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and/or cognitive processing therapy (CPT) to treat trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Depression and Grief
Life difficulties can often lead to depressive episodes and it can feel like it will never end. We use a variety of therapies including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion focused therapy (CFT), meaning therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to help navigate these experiences of depression and grief.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
Borderline personality disorder (BPD) often presents itself as a person who feels they have a sensitive emotional thermostat. We treat BPD using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) and compassion focused therapy (CFT) integrating distress tolerance, coping strategies and mindfulness skills.
Psychosis and Bipolar Disorder
Experiencing psychosis, such as schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder may include hearing or seeing things that may not be present. Bipolar disorder is a mental health disorder where individuals will experience intense mood swings and mood episodes. We treat psychosis and bipolar disorder using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and compassion focused therapy (CFT).
Addictions
Addictions can be a frustrating experience and can impact the person's entire family and social system. We treat those suffering from a variety of addictions including substance, sex and gambling using cognitive behavioural therapy (CFT) and compassion focused therapy (CFT). We also provide therapy for the support systems of these individuals.
Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are characterized as severe and persistent disturbances in eating patterns that are often associated with distressing thoughts and emotions. To help treat different types of eating disorders, we use a client specific protocol combining cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), exposure & response prevention (ERP), compassion focused therapy (CFT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
Sports Psychology
Blocks, slumps, and performance anxiety can interfere with our ability to engage in sports in a way that seemed natural to us before. Sports traumas, misses, or humiliation may impact our confidence and trigger our fight/flight/freeze response and create a barrier to our performance. We use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion focused therapy (CFT), prolonged exposure (PE), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and brainspotting therapy to help process sport-related traumas and reduce triggers to help enable natural fluidity in the sport
Inner Ear and Neck - Tinnitus, Balance Disturbances and Cervicogenic Vertigo (disequilibrium and vertigo)
Tinnitus, balance disturbances and cervicogenic vertigo can result in an incurable “ringing in the ears”, disequilibrium and vertigo and triggers a persistent emotional and often anxiety reaction. In order to help clients manage their distress and increase their engagement in meaningful and valuable activities, we use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and compassion focused therapy (CFT), including acceptance and mindfulness to lessen the impact of the physical sensations on the psychological outcomes.
Pain
Chronic pain often causes a sense of loss of purpose and meaning in life while concurrently impacting our ability to sleep soundly which all increases our sensitivity to pain while decreasing our tolerance. We use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion focused therapy (CFT), meaning therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to help decrease our sensitivity to pain while improving quality of life and mood.
Sleep and Insomnia
Sleep disorders are classified as conditions that impair one’s ability to sleep restfully on a regular basis. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) has shown significant results in the literature for its ability to improve sleep and decrease episodes of insomnia. We use CBT and a variety of mindfulness activities to help improve sleep.
Marriage, Couples and Relationship Therapy
We help people who are going through life transitions including reconnection, separation, conscious uncoupling and divorce in all types of relationships including and not limited to monogamous, open and polyamorous. These difficult discussions are guided using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion focused therapy (CFT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
Children's Therapy
Children and youth can experience a number of mental health challenges From birth, they are learning from the environment around them and negative or abnormal interactions and life events can have a direct impact on their social and emotional development. Different types of psychotherapy we use for children and youth include acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and compassion focused therapy (CFT).
Infertility, Pregnancy and Postpartum Mental Health
When you have experienced pregnancy loss perhaps from infertility, a miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss, or if you struggle with infertility, perinatal, or postpartum mental health issues, this experience can be painful, isolating, and/or overwhelming. We’re here for you - we provide support and healing for grief, depression, and anxiety, using compassion focused therapy (CFT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for individuals and couples.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Family Support
Without an assessment and diagnosis made by an appropriate healthcare professional, many children and adults with ASD are unable to receive the funding and support they need to thrive. With understanding the stress and anxiety that comes with living with (or living with a loved one with) ASD at a time when resources are limited, our team is able to provide clients with therapeutic support so that they can develop the tools they need to cope with overwhelming emotions and changes, and to face the world with confidence and a positive outlook.
